Connected and autonomous mobility technologies have the potential to change the future of transport. Connected vehicles are those which use digital connectivity to talk to each other and to their surrounding environment. Autonomous vehicles are also known as self-driving vehicles. They are able to guide themselves with minimal human intervention under certain circumstances.
The Department of Transport is seeking to develop a new cross-Government national strategy which will set out the steps to be taken over the coming years to facilitate the development and deployment of connected and autonomous mobility in Ireland. This public consultation, led by the Department, marks the first key stage in this process.
The Department is seeking your views on the main areas and issues that should be addressed in a new national strategy on connected and autonomous mobility, as well as the guiding principles that should drive the development and deployment of connected and autonomous mobility in Ireland. We invite all interested parties to have their say in informing the new strategy. We would welcome submissions to the consultation on connected and autonomous mobility in either Irish or English.
