Consultation is open

This consultation concerns the next iteration of the Renewable Transport Fuel Policy 2025-2027 involving the transition to renewable energy in transport and setting out a policy pathway for delivery of the 2030 transport targets set out in the Climate Action Plan as agreed by Government, as well as the targets and requirements under the European Renewable Energy Directive.

The Minister for Transport, Darragh O’Brien TD, invites your views on the attached draft policy statement. This draft policy statement has been informed by the results of a public consultation run in December 2024 – January 2025, which is summarised in the attached report.

Key elements contained in the Draft Policy Statement

Key elements of the draft policy statement include:

  • Policy actions for the next two years and a policy pathway to achieve Climate Action Plan biofuel targets and requirements of the European Renewable Energy Directive.
  • The Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation rates trajectory 2026-2030.
  • Research to support the next phase of the policy.

What we will do with your response

Responses will be reviewed by the Climate Adaptation, Research, and Energy Division. Responses will inform the development of the final Renewable Transport Fuel Policy 2025-2027 being undertaken by the Department of Transport.
