The Minister for Transport has published the Renewable Fuels for Transport Policy Statement 2021 – 2023. The Renewable Transport Fuel Policy 2023-2025 is now available.
The Policy Statement sets out a roadmap for the supply and use of renewable fuels in transport energy in meeting targets set out in the Climate Action Plan 2021 and European obligations for renewable energy supply and use in transport.
Commitments contained in the Policy Statement refer to increases in the supply of biofuels commencing in 2022, while ensuring the maintenance of the highest standards of sustainability of biofuel supply from source, and incentives to develop and supply a wider range of renewable fuels.
The Policy Statement provides a framework for an ongoing process of consultation and review regarding the longer-term changes proposed.
The continued contribution of biofuels towards Ireland’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 2030 will be subject to analysis and review.
The Department of Transport is now undertaking a public consultation to seek views on the focus of the next iteration of the Renewable Fuels for Transport policy statement. The Department has already undertaken four thematic workshops and a webinar to launch the written submission phase on the 8th April.
