Anne Graham appointed Chair of the Road Safety Authority

Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien has today appointed Anne Graham as Chair of the Road Safety Authority.

Ms Graham is a transportation and environment engineer professional with over 34 years’ experience across the transportation sector. She had an extensive career in Dublin City Council including as a traffic and roads engineer, before joining the National Transport Authority (NTA) as a director in 2010. She served as Chief Executive Officer of the NTA from December 2014 to December 2024. The NTA reached the landmark of one million daily public transport passenger journeys for the first time in 2024, under Ms Graham’s leadership.

Welcoming the appointment, Minister O’Brien said:

“I am delighted that Anne has accepted the offer to serve as Chair of the Road Safety Authority. Anne has extensive knowledge of the road safety sector and a track record of strong leadership, with great strides made in the provision and update of public transport and active travel in her time in the NTA. As we embark on a process to reform the Road Safety Authority in the coming years, I am confident that Anne’s leadership will be an asset for the agency and help ensure the new structures deliver improved road safety outcomes for all our citizens.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Liz O’Donnell for her significant contribution as Chair over the previous decade.”

Reacting to her appointment, Anne Graham said:

“I am honoured to be appointed Chair of the Road Safety Authority, which is one of the most important and recognisable agencies in the State. During my tenure as Chief Executive of the National Transport Authority, we invested significantly in public transport, improved active travel, traffic calming and the public realm, making our roads and built environment safer for road users. I have also worked closely with senior leadership within the Road Safety Authority through the Road Safety Transformation Partnership Board and Ministerial Committee on Road Safety in the past, and I know that we share a commitment to improving road safety outcomes and delivering the government’s Road Safety Strategy.

“The reform of the Road Safety Authority announced last November is an opportunity to ensure that our road safety structures are appropriately set up to deliver the government’s Road Safety Strategy. I look forward to contributing to and supporting this important work in the role of Chair.”

In line with the Road Safety Authority Act 2006, Ms Graham has been appointed as Chair on a five-year term effective from 25 February 2025.
