Expansion of Zero Emission Heavy Duty Vehicles Purchase Grant Scheme will support Ireland’s fleet transition

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has today announced an expansion to the existing Zero Emission Heavy Duty Vehicle (ZEHDV) Purchase Grant Scheme. The scheme will now include purchase grants for charging infrastructure.
The present scheme promotes the decarbonisation of the freight sector by offering grants for the purchase of heavy duty vehicles that are alternatively-fuelled, exceed applicable European Union environmental standards, and would not otherwise have been purchased. The scheme expansion means successful applicants will be able to install their own depot charging points, and also facilitates public charging around logistics hubs, and in urban nodes.
Announcing the expansion, Minister Ryan said:
“Expanding the scheme to include charging infrastructure allows businesses to secure additional funding and support the growing demand for HGV depot and public charging. As businesses face growing pressure to decarbonise, fleets need reliable and cost-effective electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions to power their operations. The expansion of the existing programme aims to address a key barrier to the uptake of the ZEHDV in fleets by providing financial support for ZEHDV charging infrastructure for all, irrespective of whether they own/purchase a ZEHDV or not."
Transport Infrastructure Ireland will administer the extended scheme as part of the existing ZEHDV Purchase Grant Scheme, which was opened on 1 November of this year for 2025 applications.
In addition, the Minister also announced the introduction of funding for a Fleet Assessment Audit.
The Audit will be administered by SEAI. It will benefit businesses by offering them an assessment by an independent energy advisor, who would provide guidance on the transition to zero emission vehicles.
Notes
The existing Zero Emission Heavy Duty Vehicle Purchase Grant Scheme (ZEHDV Scheme) opened in February 2024 and supports companies and enterprises who wish to buy zero emission heavy duty vehicles. Applications to the scheme will be accepted from 1 November of each year and will be valid until 31 October of the following year.
The Scheme is funded by the Department of Transport and administered by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
SEAI will administer the operation and funding of a Fleet Assessment Audit.
