General Scheme of a Merchant Shipping (Investigation of Marine Casualties) (Amendment) Bill 2020

On 8 December 2020, the Government approved the urgent drafting of a Merchant Shipping (Investigation of Marine Casualties) (Amendment) Bill to provide for the amendment of the Merchant Shipping (Investigation of Marine Casualties) Act 2000 arising from the Court of Justice of the European Union Judgment in Case C-257/19, European Commission v Ireland, concerning the Marine Casualty Investigation Board, and related matters, and to amend the definition of “Safety Convention” in the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) Act 1952, along the lines of the General Scheme attached below.
