Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation Rates 2024

The Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan, T.D. has signed off on regulations which establish the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) rates for 2024.
The regulations are:
- National Oil Reserves Agency Act 2007 (Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation Rate) (Revocation) Order 2023 (S.I. No. 691 of 2023)
- National Oil Reserves Agency Act 2007 (Advanced Biofuel Obligation Rate) (Revocation) Order 2023 (S.I. No. 692 of 2023)
- European Union (Renewable Energy) Regulations 2023 (S.I. No. 693 of 2023)
The regulations, which come into effect on 1 January 2024, revoke current RTFO rates and set the 2024 RTFO rates as:
- renewable transport fuel obligation rate – 21%
- advanced biofuel obligation rate – 1%
- crop cap – 2.3%
- high ILUC-risk feedstock cap – 90% of the total amount supplied in 2019
