TRA Dublin 2024

TheTransport Research Arena (TRA) conference is to be hosted by Ireland in the RDS Dublin from 15 to 18 April 2024.

TRA, which takes place every two years, is the largest European transport and mobility research, innovation, and technology event with approx. 4000+ attendees expected in Dublin. It brings together policymakers, researchers, academia, and industry representatives to discuss how research, innovation and technology can work together to shape our current and future transport and mobility systems.

The first TRA took place in Sweden in 2006 and has been hosted by a different European city every two years since then. The last conference took place in Lisbon, Portugal. The Irish accepted the passing of the baton from Portugal at the Official Handover during the Closing Ceremony of TRA2022 in November 2022. A promotional video also featured at the Handover which included contributions from the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris, and (then) Minister of State for Transport Hildegarde Naughton, who all expressed their wish to see all stakeholders in Dublin for the Conference in 2024. The Conference in Dublin will be the 10th edition of TRA and the first time it will be held beyond mainland Europe. Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan is the TRA2024 President and the Department of Transport is the official Host, supported by Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the European Commission. The goal is to showcase the best Ireland and Europe has to offer across the transport and mobility arena. The theme for TRA2024 www.traconference.eu is “Transport Transitions: Advancing Sustainable and Inclusive Mobility.”

This is broken down into four distinct subthemes:-

Day 1 Safe & Inclusive Transport

Day 2 Sustainable Mobility of People & Goods

Day 3 Efficient & Resilient Systems

Day 4 Collaborative Digitalisation

As well as being a transport policy/strategy event, the conference will also be a unique opportunity to highlight the research capabilities of Irish third level institutions and to create a platform for networking and cooperation in international research. Our “Call for Abstracts” offers the opportunity for students to present their paper via a poster which will be displayed at the conference. To date almost 1,200 Abstracts have been received, which is a record number for the conference. There is also “TRA Visions” which includes Young Researcher and Senior Researcher Competitions and represents an opportunity for researchers to showcase their work on an international stage.
