The original application for this proposed project was submitted by partner body SEAI on behalf of Saipem SA. SEAI, owners of an existing Lease on the site, have since taken ownership of the application.
Description:
Site Investigation for AFLOWT (Accelerating market uptake of FLoating Offshore Wind Technology) testing/demonstrating of Offshore Floating Wind (FOW) technology. Sub-bottom Profiling and Cone Penetration Testing to inform on the proposed deployment of a turbine of up to 6MW at AMETS (Atlantic Marine Energy Test Site) in partnership with SEAI off the west coast of Co. Mayo.

The Minister will make a determination as to whether or not the proposed project would adversely affect the integrity of a European site in accordance with Regulation 42(11) of the European Communities (Birds and Natural Habitats) Regulations 2011 and, in doing so, shall have regard to the matters in Regulation 42(12).
In this regard, in accordance with Regulation 42(13), any person may make a submission or observation to the Minister concerning the proposed project between Tuesday, 19 April 2022 and Wednesday, 18 May 2022. The Minister shall have regard to any submissions or observations received during the public consultation.
A copy of the application, map of the proposed project, the determination that an Appropriate Assessment is required in respect of the project, the Natura Impact Statement and the other information and documentation relevant to the application are available for inspection for 30 calendar days between Tuesday, 19 April 2022 and Wednesday, 18 May 2022 , free of charge, at:
-Foreshore Unit, Marine Planning Policy and Development, Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government, Newtown Road, Wexford, Co. Wexford.

The closing date for submissions is 18th May 2022 .
Submissions received outside of the public consultation period cannot be considered.
The Department wishes to draw attention to its policy on defamatory material that may be contained in submissions it receives.

An initial Public Consultation was held between March-April 2020 . A Natura Impact Statement was submitted and a repeat Public Consultation was held between 17 August 2020 and 16 September 2020 , following which the Minister has determined, in accordance with Regulation 42(6) of the European Communities (Birds and Natural Habitats) Regulations 2011, that an Appropriate Assessment is required in respect of the proposed project.
