Fresh funding of almost €5 million has been allocated to support 113 sports clubs in rural communities.
The Department of Rural and Community Development has allocated grants of up to €50,000 for a range of projects including upgrades to spectator stands, astro-turfs, handball alleys, floodlights, clubhouses and dressing rooms.

Details of funding to support over 100 sports clubs in rural communities under Measure 1 of the 2023 CLÁR Programme.
The funding is being provided under Measure 1 of the 2023 CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) programme.
CLÁR funds small scale projects in rural areas that have experienced significant levels of population decline. It is part of Our Rural Future, the government’s strategic five-year rural development plan.
Areas targeted under the CLÁR Programme are parts of counties: Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, and Waterford, Westmeath, Wicklow and all of County Leitrim.
