Following a Public Appointments Service campaign, the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has appointed the following members to the Social Care Workers Registration Board with effect from 1 June 2023 until 26 March 2027.
Emmet Tuite is the programme director for Applied Social Care programmes on the Blanchardstown Campus of TU Dublin. He teaches modules across a range of areas, including; professional practice, substance use, research methods and placement preparation. He has also acted as an externa examiner for a number of social care programmes in recent years Emmet is currently a board member of Social Care Ireland. He has also authored multiple articles for publication and has presented regularly at Irish and international conferences.
Audrey Reddington is a qualified social care worker since 2004, having worked with adults with disabilities, mainstream residential houses, a secure care unit and with Enable Ireland in respite services with children for the past 14 years. She became manager in 2016 and in 2019 managed two houses; one for children and the other for adults with disabilities. Her passion lies with children’s services and this is where she has remained. Audrey volunteered with a CORU working group in 2015/2016 to develop registration for social care workers and has also worked with CORU reviewing potential college courses for social care workers. In 2015, she undertook a degree in physical therapy whilst also taking on the role of respite manager in her full-time job, so multitasking is in her blood but balance is key.
Darren Crowe has worked in social care services nationally for more than 15 years, specifically in the area of homelessness. Darren holds an MA in Social Care from the Institute of Technology, Tralee (now Munster Technological University). He has managed services across the country including residential and community-based services, both with NOVAS and the Society of St Vincent de Paul. Darren has a particular interest in the further development of Social Care with the voluntary sector, and especially homeless services.
Michelle Long is an experienced social care professional with over 25 years demonstrated history working in various mid and senior level social care management roles. Michelle has an excellent track record in achieving quality outcomes for service users. She has worked across public and private social care organisations leading and developing teams in the social care sector. She qualified with a diploma in Applied Social Studies in social care before completing a diploma in health services management and an MA in leadership and management.
