Following nomination by the HSE, the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has appointed Ms Karen Greene to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. This appointment is for the period from 25 March 2019 to 05 December 2020.
Karen is responsible for leading the development of a nursing vision for the future which will achieve excellence in the quality of patient care and the development of a dynamic nursing workforce which is open to and empowers innovation, creativity and learning at ward and department level.
Karen joined Beaumont in 1996 and her career to date has been predominantly spent specialising in the field of Neurosciences. She has held various nursing management positions within the specialty, including CNM 2 of a large acute neurosurgical ward, CNM 3 of the Neuro-Oncology Service, and a number of years as Directorate Nurse Manager in the Neurocent Directorate.
Karen was promoted to Deputy Director of Nursing in 2013, where she led the nursing department in the area of service planning and workforce planning. She joined the Executive Management Team in Beaumont in 2015 when she was appointed as Director of Nursing. She has responsibility for 1,500 wte staff comprised of registered nurses and Health Care Assistants.
Karen holds a BSc. in Nursing from Dublin City University, and an MSc. in Organisational Change and Leadership from Dublin City University and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Karen also holds an Advanced Diploma in Personal and Executive Coaching and is currently undertaking a Diploma in Quality from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
