Following the nomination by the Minister for Education, The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly T.D., has appointed Ms Georgina Gethin to the Podiatrists Registration Board with effect from 7th February 2023 until 15th of October 2026.
Georgina teaches and researches at undergraduate and postgraduate level and has established programmes of education in nursing, up to and including PhD programmes. She is familiar with the quality criteria are also applicable to the discipline of podiatry. She currently collaborates with podiatry colleagues in research and education and is aware of their scope of practice and programme of education leading to registration. Ms Gethin currently leads research programmes in the field of diabetic foot disease which is of direct relevance to podiatrists and to the National Model of Care for the Diabetic Foot. She sits on the fitness to practice committee for the School of Nursing in University College Cork and has acted as an external reviewer for level 10 programmes of education in Ireland. She is an external examiner for PhD, MSc candidates and an evaluator for applications for career progression in national and international institutions. She is a member of, and former scientific recorder for, the European Wound Management Association. She is aware of the changes and challenges in healthcare professional education throughout Europe and how various institutions respond to these. This will be of value in contributing to the Podiatry Registration Board.
