Appointment of Dr John Hillery to the Mental Health Commission

Minister of State with Responsibility for Mental Health and Older People, Mary Butler TD, has appointed Dr John Hillery to the Mental Health Commission. This appointment is made following Dr Hillery’s nomination by the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland. The appointment is for the period from 2 November 2020 to 4 April 2022.
Dr John Hillery
Dr. John Hillery was a Consultant Psychiatrist in the services for people with intellectual disability run by Stewarts Care, Dublin and St. John of God Kildare Services as well as the HSE Mental Health Services at Tallaght.
He is a former President of the Medical Council and the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities. Dr Hillery was also a member of the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland and of the Independent Monitoring Group of ‘A Vision for Change’ (the preceding national policy on Mental Health).
He is the immediate past-President of the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland having formerly been the Director of Communications and Public Education.
