On the nomination of the Minister for Education and Skills, the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has re-appointed the following person as a member of the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board. This re-appointment is with effect from 24 August 2019 to 13 February 2023.
Dr Pettigrew is senior lecturer in occupational therapy at the University of Limerick (UL). She is a qualified occupational therapist (St Joseph’s College of Occupational Therapy, Dublin and the University of Alberta) has a PhD and MA in social anthropology (University of Cambridge and University of Alberta) and an MA in history (University of Limerick). She is an established academic with more than 20 years’ experience in senior academic roles and has taught at universities in Ireland, Switzerland, the UK and Nepal.
Dr Pettigrew teaches on the University of Limerick graduate entry MSc Occupational Therapy programme as well as on the MSc in Speech and Language Therapy and the BSc and MSc in Physiotherapy. She was formerly Course Director of the MSc Occupational Therapy and Course Director of the MSc Clinical Therapies (for qualified health and social care professionals). When Head of the Occupational Therapy Department at UL Dr Pettigrew prioritised the development of the department’s research base. Dr Pettigrew has a very broad clinical background specialising in forensic mental health.
Dr Pettigrew has practised as an occupational therapist in Ireland, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Nepal and the UK. Her current research is on the history of occupational therapy and women’s experiences of forensic mental health services.
