On the nomination of the Health Products Regulatory Authority, the Minister for Health Mr Stephen Donnelly TD, has appointed Dr Paul Gallagher as a member of the Advisory Committee for Human Medicines. This appointment is from 24 August 2020 to 31 December 2020.
Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine & General Internal Medicine Cork University Hospital & Senior Lecturer, School of Medicine, University College Cork.
Dr. Paul Gallagher is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. He was appointed as Consultant Physician in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine to Cork University Hospital in 2011. He is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Education at the School of Medicine, UCC, and a member of Faculty at the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, UCC. Since 2016, Dr. Gallagher has been National Specialty Director of the Higher Specialist Training Programme in Geriatric Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. He has completed subspecialty training in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics as well as a Fellowship in Stroke Medicine at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, UK.
Dr. Gallagher has published numerous original research papers, review articles and book chapters on the subject of appropriate medication use in older adults including. He was co-principal investigator on the Irish National Audit of Dementia care in acute hospitals 2014 and 2019 and is co-investigator on SENATOR, an EU-FP7 funded multicentre research program into prescribing optimization in older people.
