On the nomination of the Health Products Regulatory Authority, the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has appointed the following as members of the Advisory Committee for Human Medicines with effect from 27 March 2024 until 26 March 2029.
A graduate of University College Cork, Michael completed his Higher Specialist Training in Medical Oncology in 2017. He was awarded a Medical Research Council UK Clinical Research Training Fellowship to study NKG2D ligand regulation, leading to the award of DPhil in Clinical Medicine from the University of Oxford. Michael now works as a Consultant Medical Oncologist in University Hospital Galway. He is currently secretary of the Irish Society of Medical Oncology, a member of the RCPIs Specialty Training Committee for Medical Oncology, Saolta Cancer MCAN Medical Oncology Group Lead, and chairs the NCCP Medical Oncology Clinical Leads Group.
Professor Greally is an academic respiratory paediatrician who until recently practiced in the Children's Health Ireland group of hospitals. He has special clinical interest in cystic fibrosis, asthma, allergy and sleep medicine. He trained in Ireland, the UK and the US. His research focused on host-microbe interactions, inflammation and polymicrobial infections in the CF airway. His work has been published widely in peer reviewed journals. He has held many leadership roles within the Asthma Society of Ireland, Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, CF registry of Ireland, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and international CF and respiratory organisations. He has acted as a manuscript reviewer for several international paediatric journals and has supervised several MD and PhD projects. He previously served as Chief Clinical Director for the Children's Hospital Group and led clinical integration across the three Dublin children's hospitals (including urgent care centres) in advance of their move to the new children's hospital on the St James Campus in 2025.
