Following a Public Appointments Service campaign for non-professional positions on the Health and Social Care Professionals Council (CORU) and Registration Boards the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly T.D., has appointed the following members:
John Hennessy is a West Cork native living in Clonakilty and holds a degree in Health Management and a diploma in Corporate Governance. He has over 35 years of management experience in Irish Healthcare covering Welfare services, Hospital Care and Primary/ Community Services.
This appointment is with effect from 5th December 2022 to the 5th May 2025.
Dr Geraldine O’Hare is a Chartered and Registered Forensic Psychologist and a Chartered Scientist. Geraldine worked as the Head of Psychological Services and Director of Rehabilitation with the Probation Board for Northern Ireland for 27 years, and currently holds a number of positions including professional regulatory bodies in Ireland and the UK.
This appointment is with effect from 5th December 2022 to the 20th March 2023. Dr O’Hare is appointed with the consent of the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Dr Martina Ní Chúlain is Director of Strategic Development and Process Improvement at the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, University of Galway. This senior leadership role interfaces at a strategic level at the nexus of the education sector, the healthcare sector, governmental agencies, charities and industry. Martina is responsible for strategic business planning and for the oversight and leadership of a €70 million complex portfolio of accredited clinical educational and research activities, which include regulated and non-regulated clinical trials and the management of accredited and regulated health care educational programmes (Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery, SLT, OT, Podiatriac Medicine and Social Care) Martina graduated from the University of Galway with a B.Sc (Hons) in Biotechnology and PhD in Medical Microbiology. She joined the University of Galway in 2009 having previously worked in the medical device and pharmaceutical sectors and since 2015 holds the Director of Strategic Development and Process Improvement role at the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. Martina previous held the roles of Head of Admissions and the Officer with responsibility for Academic Planning and Resourcing within the University, and has extensive experience in higher education leadership, governance, finance, large research bits, change management and the development of policies, services and programmes that support the mission of the University and that of the Saolta University Healthcare Group.
This appointment is with effect from 5th December 2022 to the 20th March 2023. Dr Ní Chúlain is appointed with the consent of the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Denis Joyce currently works as a Candidate Selection Consultant with a large recruitment agency and is also a member of the Public Appointments interview Board panel. He has spent three years as Chair of the National Citizens Information Service Employer Group. He sits on the board of North Connaught/Ulster Citizens Information Service (Chair), MS North-West (Vice Chair). He has academic qualifications in Leadership, Industrial Relations, Management, Governance, and Data Protection.
This appointment is with effect from 5th December 2022 to the 25th November 2026. Mr Joyce is appointed with the consent of the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Hugh Farrell has had an extensive career in middle and senior management positions in Community and Hospital settings, whilst employed by the Western Health Board over 24 years, followed by by 17 years as Regional Manager, Irish Wheelchair Association responsible for 4 Community Healthcare Organisation Areas. Hugh holds a B. Commerce (Honours) University College, Galway and a Diploma in Healthcare Management, Institute of Public Administration. Now retired he still maintains a keen interest in Community, Health and Social Care matters and is currently a Board and Committee Member of a number of Organisations in the Sector.
This appointment is with effect from 5th December 2022 to 19th May 2024.
June Stanley is a senior executive with a 30 year track record of accomplishment in Healthcare and Financial Services. After commencing her career working in both banking and insurance, June moved into healthcare in 2003; holding senior management positions in St. Vincent’s Healthcare Group, Hermitage Medical Clinic, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and now holds the position of Deputy CEO / Director of Operational Services at the National Rehabilitation Hospital. During this time June has led many strategic projects including capital developments and change management initiatives. Professionally, June is a Chartered Internal Auditor and Accountant (FCCA), with an MSc in Management and Application of IT in accounting, Diploma in Corporate Governance and Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma for healthcare and is currently studying for a Doctorate in Business Administration. June has previously served on the Board of an Irish charity, with specific oversight of Governance.
This appointment is with effect from 5th December 2022 to 25th November 2026.
James Doorley is currently Secretary General of the Irish Chamber of Shipping. He is also a board member of the Residential Tenancies Board and previously served as a member of the Dental Council. He also serves on regulatory committees with the Nursing and Midwifery Board and the Legal Services Regulatory Authority. He is active with a number of charities, including as Chairperson of North Leinster MABS. James has qualifications in social studies, law and corporate governance.

John Hanily is a Principal Environmental Health Officer with the Health Service Executive in Roscommon. He is a highly experienced Environmental Health professional with a combination of over 40 years’ experience in the Health Service and 35 years Senior Management experience. John is currently a member of the Occupational Therapist’s Registration Board and previously served 2 terms on both the Dietitian’s and Social Worker’s Registration Boards.

Adrienne Byrne has been passionate and committed to working with children and families through Care, Welfare and Child Protection Sector for some 30 years plus. Adrienne has been a volunteer and fund raiser for Charitable Organisations since her teenage years. She has the privilege to work in a profession that is her passion. That profession being Social Work. Adrienne obtained a Batchelor of Social Work in University College Cork and then went on some years later to complete a Masters in Social Work Research at University College Dublin. Adrienne has been a practicing Social Worker since 1996. She has been working advocating and supportingchildren and families throughout her career as a Social Worker, Social Work Team Leader and now currently as a Principal Social Worker. Adrienne has been advocating for children and families for Housing, Support Services, Mental Health Services, Counselling and Family therapeutic interventions. She has worked with Voluntary and Statutory Agencies to provide the services and continue to do so in ongoing practice of Social Work with Tusla Child & Family Agency. Adrienne has been a member of the Snr National Executive Committee of her Union now known as Forsa and has also been Vice Chair of the National Executive of Health and Welfare Division of her Union. She has volunteered in more recent years with the homeless in evenings and nights. Adrienne is currently a member of the Dun Laoghaire Lions Club which supports vulnerable individuals, elderly,families and charities in the local community. Adrienne was elected to the Social Work Registration Board at CORU 2014 to 2016 and was privileged to be elected for a second term.
