The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has reappointed the following persons as members of the Medical Council.
Ian is the CEO of the Corporate Enforcement Authority. Previously, he was the Director of Corporate Enforcement. He is also former CEO of the Irish Auditing & Accounting Supervisory Authority and former Auditor at the Office of the Comptroller & Auditor General. He is a graduate of UCD, the Smurfit Business School and the King’s Inns. He is also a Fellow of both the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland.
This appointment is from 1 June 2023 to 31 May 2028.
John Gleeson is a solicitor and until his retirement from professional practice in 2018 was a Partner and Head of the Healthcare team in Mason Hayes and Curran Solicitors, specialising in the areas of medical law and medical defence litigation. Mr Gleeson is also a member of the Dental Council of Ireland. Mr Gleeson was a member of the National Screening Advisory Committee from 2019 to 2022, a member of the Board of the Coombe Hospital from 2013 to 2022 and Chair of the Board from 2014 to 2021 and Chair of the Voluntary Healthcare Forum from 2016 to 2021.
Paul Harkin is Director of Strategic Development at the UCD School of Medicine, a post he has held since 2006. A Business and a Science graduate, he has 16 years of experience in R&D in the pharmaceutical industry and 20 years of experience in academia. At the UCD School of Medicine, he is responsible for strategy development and strategic planning, major change initiatives, new programme development and stakeholder relationship management. Prior to his current role, Paul was Programmes & Operations Manager at the Dublin Molecular Medicine Centre, Associate Director for Strategic Business Planning at Elan Corporation, Head of Analytical Science at Elan Biotechnology Research and Research Team Leader at Glaxo Group Research. Paul has a Masters in Business Administration from the UCD Smurfit Graduate School and a BSc in Analytical Science from Dublin City University.
