On the nomination of the Podiatrists Registration Board, the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has appointed the following as a professional member of the Health and Social Care Professionals Council.
This appointment is for the period 23 May 2019 to 15 October 2022.
Dr Julia Shaw has 38 years' NHS Podiatry experience in management, clinical and research areas within Podiatry. She completed a PhD in 2008 at Ulster University in Belfast and has presented and published her work internationally.
Julia has represented Northern Ireland in a variety of national roles, including appointment as an Executive Member of the Foot in Diabetes UK and as a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion.
Currently, as Assistant Podiatry Manager in the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, she contributes to the corporate governance framework and ensures a team of 36 Podiatrists provide high quality, safe and effective patient care complying with public sector values, codes of conduct, and accountability in the Trust.
She is currently a Fitness to Practise Panel Member and a Registration Assessor for the UK Regulator (HCPC), a Fellow of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists UK, and a Chartered Scientist and Chartered Scientist CPD Assessor.
She is an Expert Witness for the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists UK, a member of the Expert Witness Institute and has experience in writing expert legal reports.
