OGP plays a part in Irish history as Gardaí begin wearing new uniforms

As Gardaí nationwide begin to wear a new uniform today, Monday, 15 August 2022, the Office of Government Procurement (OGP) is proud to have played its part in sourcing the uniforms.

The OGP collaborated with An Garda Síochána to source suppliers to deliver the new operational uniform.

The OGP conducted extensive market research, identified potential impacts and risks and developed robust tender documentation as part of the development process.

An Garda Síochána worked extensively with a variety of stakeholders to develop the new uniform designs, conduct field trials and secure stakeholder approval.

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, both the OGP and An Gardaí Síochána successfully worked together to complete the project.

There are a number of environmental benefits associated with the project, such as:

• waste reduction through stock controls

• recyclable packaging

• recycling of goods (repair and reuse)

• option to dispose of uniforms at end of life

• improved awareness around garment care which lengthens the lifecycle of the uniform

CEO of the OGP Paul Quinn said:

"This project demonstrates the power of collaboration in procurement. Despite the uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, An Garda Síochána and the OGP continued to work together and deliver effective, environmentally-friendly uniforms for the service. The success of this project is reflected in it being awarded FM Project of the Year – Public Sector at the 2022 Facilities Management Awards.

We are looking forward to collaborating with other public sector bodies on public procurement projects in the future.”

This is only the third time in history that An Garda Síochána has introduced changes to its uniform, and the OGP is delighted to have been a part of Irish history!
