A risk based approach on the likely impacts of climate change must be used in estimating design flood flows for bridge and culvert design.
Example of the catchment characteristics equation.
Planning guidance has been prepared by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government and the OPW on flood risk management in the planning process. The OPW will not consent to a bridge or culvert over an existing watercourse, where the requirements under the planning guidelines have not been met.
