Kevin Street Garda Station

The new Kevin Street Garda Divisional Headquarters, designed by the OPW, has an overall building area of 12,240 square metres, consisting of five storeys over a two level basement. It accommodates a new Garda Divisional Headquarters.

The contemporary building design reflects the public face of the GardaĆ as a modern police force and represents a new modern phase in the relationship between the GardaĆ and the city. It is designed as a civic quality building responding to the specific site context of its historic surroundings.

The building is energy efficient and sustainable with universal access for all. The building is arranged in linear blocks of accommodation either side of an atrium space. It reinstates the street line along Bride Street with a five-storey building opposite the seven -storey National Archive building.

Completed in 2019, the new Kevin Street Garda Divisional Headquarters will have a positive and beneficial impact on the south inner city of Dublin in a variety of different ways.

The three most important aspects include:

  • the provision of vital Garda infrastructure for inner city policing
  • the reinstatement of the Bride Street and Kevin Street corner with a quality contemporary building which acknowledges its pivotal corner site and also respects its historical neighbours
  • allows the future restoration of the existing Kevin Street Garda Station, which was formerly the medieval Archbishops Palace, for a compatible public use
