Minister O'Donnell visits local residents of Lough Funshinagh to discuss decision by An Bord Pleanála

Minister of State at the Office of Public Works, Kieran O’Donnell, along with his Officials visited Roscommon on Wednesday 15 January, and together with Roscommon County Council officials met with local residents of Lough Funshinagh and public representatives to provide an update on the recent decision by An Bord Pleanála to approve the development of an interim flood relief solution to pump water from Lough Funshinagh. The residents were informed of the proposed works and timelines to complete the works and it is proposed by Roscommon County Council to have the pumping stations and the temporary scheme in place and fully operational by the end of March 2025.
An update was also provided on progressing the permanent scheme for Lough Funshinagh and timelines involved.

Minister O’Donnell stated that:
“I am delighted to have been able to meet again with the local residents of Funshinagh, following the very recent positive announcement by An Bord Pleanála and to discuss the proposed works that will be put in place to facilitate the temporary solution. I am fully aware of what this decision means for the community of lough Funshinagh. An update was also provided on progressing the permanent scheme for Lough Funshinagh and timelines involved.
"Roscommon County Council will continue to progress the permanent scheme for Lough Funshinagh, and as part of the process will hold a suite of public consultations meetings. The first of the three meetings is due to take place on Tuesday, 28 January in the Hudson Bay and I would encourage all interested parties to participate.”
