OPW celebrates the launch of a new and exciting International Exhibition, ‘The Fine Art of Textile’

The Office of Public Works is delighted to announce the launch of ‘The Fine Art of Textile’ in the Coach House Gallery, Dublin Castle from the 6 June 2025. Curated by the esteemed Irish artist Nuala Goodman and Italian journalist Maria Luisa Caffarelli, this exciting international exhibition showcases contemporary textile art that incorporates elements of painting, sculpture, drawing and sewing. Donegal tweed also plays a role through ‘The Wild Donegal Tweed Project’.

Textile art has recently gained mainstream recognition, as seen through prominent exhibitions and the works of artists like Olga de Amaral. The core of the exhibition features the Milan based collective ‘Fringe’, founded in 2022 by four female artists from different countries, who explore the expressive potential of textiles.

Fine Art Exhib

The ‘Wild Donegal Tweed’ project is a collaboration between five textile mills in Donegal and fashion and textile students in Rome.
The project aims to showcase the rich history and craftsmanship of Donegal tweed, which is on the verge of gaining PGI (protected geographic indicator) status in Europe.

Chairman of the Office of Public Works, John Conlon stated:

“We are delighted to present ‘The Fine Art of Textile’ exhibition at Dublin Castle, showcasing the diverse and innovative approaches to textile art from both Irish and International artists. This exhibition celebrates the rich history and contemporary relevance of textile art in the art world.”
