OPW Statement - 13 November 2018

The Office of Public Works regrets the passing of Edna Bean Uí Chinnéide of Dingle Peninsula, Co Kerry. Bean Uí Chinnéide passed away on Sunday in her 93rd year.

Edna was for many years one of the driving forces behind the conservation of the Great Blasket Island as a founding member of the Blasket Island Foundation. She was a friend to the Office of Public Works in its endeavours in relation to the Blaskets and led a significant fundraising campaign to raise funds towards the construction of the Blasket Centre (Ionad an Bhlascaoid) in Dún Chaoin 25 years ago.

She was active in many aspects of community life in the area.

We extend our sympathies to her family and her community at this sad time, including her son Lorcán Ó Cinnéide, recently appointed Manager of Ionad an Bhlascaoid.

Bhí sí thar a bheith gníomhach I gcúrsaí éagsúla pobail sa cheanntar lena linn.

Deineann Oifig na nOibreacha Poiblí cómh-bhrón le lena clann agus a pobal ag an am brónach seo dóibh, ina measc a mac Lorcán Ó Cinnéide, nua-cheaptha le déanaí mar Bhainisteoir ar Ionad an Bhlascaoid.
