Informed by engagement at working group level in Brussels, the unit will develop policy positions based on Department of Defence Industry and Procurement policies. This requires engagement with a broad range of actors across Government Departments and Agencies. The unit works closely with Procurement & Acquisitions, Capability Development and the RTI unit to ensure cohesion in the capability development lifecycle.
In addition to Industry, the unit also leads on the Space Domain and is working towards putting a more enduring national structure in place for this domain. The unit engages with EU institutions such as DG DEFIS, European Defence Agency etc. and will play a key role in Irelands upcoming Presidency of the EU, primarily through engagement with the EU’s Working Party on Defence Industry.
The unit also has responsibility for progressing Department of Defence interests in the establishment of the National Security Authority on a statutory basis.
