Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland was established on 21 July 2022, as recommended by the Electric Vehicle Policy Pathway Working Group Report in September 2021 and following Action 274 of the Climate Action Plan 2021.
Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland is a Government of Ireland initiative based in the Department of Transport with its functions split across 4 key organisations, drawing on the skills and experience of these organisations:
The Assurance Board provides oversight and assurance for the successful implementation of the Office’s Work Programme.
The Progress Group is the governance body responsible for monitoring Work Programme progress, ensuring the delivery of tasks and achieving key performance indicators (KPIs).
The PMO supports planning and delivery, and coordinates governance for Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland.
Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland coordinates measures to support the uptake of zero emission vehicles and the rollout of charge point infrastructure to accelerate progress towards Ireland’s ambitious electric vehicle targets committed to in the Climate Action Plan 2021.
It has an objective voice on zero emission vehicles, providing advice to both public and private sectors and carrying out significant stakeholder engagement. The Office works across government, industry and society to support the transition to zero emission vehicles.
