The Statistics and Analytics unit aims to strengthen evidenced-based policymaking through improved availability and use of information. We also contribute to the better availability of comparative health statistics through data provision and policy work at EU and international levels.
The National Healthcare Statistics data is an annual exercise conducted by the Department of Health. These statistics are compiled as part of the Non-Monetary Health Care Statistics questionnaire, administered jointly by; Eurostat, OECD and WHO in fulfilment of the European regulation (EU) 2022/2294. These statistics are produced in line with the European Statistics Code of Practice.
Main results, key data (available in csv table format) and metadata for the 2024 National Healthcare Statistics compilation are summarised and available here. Internationally comparative data is also available on the Eurostat database and the OECD statistical database.
Health Statistics is a collection of tables of health-related data, covering fertility, mortality, and hospital activity.
Health statistic tables are available at the Central Statistics Office’s (CSO) Open data portal, PxStat . These tables are updated regularly as soon as new data becomes available.
Health in Ireland: Key Trends is an annual publication that provides summary statistics on health and health care in Ireland.
It is divided into a number of chapters, covering demography, health status, health service performance, employment and expenditure.
The Healthy Ireland Survey is an interviewer-administered survey of health and health behaviours of people living in Ireland.
It is managed by the Health and Wellbeing unit, with statistical support and Research Microdata File (RMF) access provided by the Statistics and Analytics unit.

In 2023, data was published as open data on Data.cso.ie for the first time. Currently, there are more than 50 tables available on topics such as General Health, Smoking, Alcohol and GP Utilisation. They can be accessed here.
The Health System Performance Assessment (HSPA) Visualisation Platform was launched by the Department of Health and the Health Service Executive in June 2023 and is an innovative new online visual health data monitoring tool. The platform was created and is maintained by the Statistics and Analytics unit.

In line with the Open Data Directive which was introduced in 2021, the Statistics and Analytics unit aims to publish as much Open Data as possible, with plans to increase this.
The National Healthcare Statistics publications for 2024 and 2023 are available as Open Data on Gov.ie. This data, along with the rest of the Open Data mentioned above can also be found on the Department of Health’s page on Data.gov.ie.
