The HSA is responsible for the enforcement of workplace health and safety law, the implementation of a number of chemicals regulations, and accreditation.
Since 31 July 2014, the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) which is the national body with responsibility for the accreditation of laboratories, certification bodies and inspection bodies, has been integrated into the HSA.
The main legislation which governs the HSA’s operation is the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Acts 2005 to 2014, as well as the Chemicals Acts 2008 and 2010.
