The work of International Security and Defence Policy Branch is to undertake the ongoing assessment, formulation and development of Government policy on Ireland’s security and defence issues.
This includes Ireland’s engagement in the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy, Ireland’s participation in Partnership for Peace, international security policy issues related to Ireland’s membership of the UN and involvement of Irish military personnel in peace support operations overseas, Ireland’s engagement in the European Defence Agency and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the impact of Brexit from an international perspective, and in general, Ireland’s international relations in the Defence arena.
In addition to these areas the Branch is also responsible for the Defence Organisation’s engagement with Industry.
