Fundamentally, good governance is about the efficient delivering of priorities, achieving objectives, behaving with integrity and acting in the public interest. It is also concerned with developing and implementing appropriate structures and processes for directing and managing the organisation so that stakeholders can be assured that the Department is operating effectively and efficiently. Whilst there is an extensive array of standards and guidance on governance in the Civil Service, such as the Cabinet Handbook, the Public Finance Procedures, the Public Spending Code, the Civil Service Code of Standards and Behaviour etc., the Department’s Corporate Governance Framework seeks to provide a single reference point for governance arrangements that apply in the Department of Defence.
The Corporate Governance arrangements for the Department of Defence are set out in the document available here.
