The Inspectorate is the division of the Department of Education responsible for the evaluation of early learning and care settings, primary schools, special schools and post-primary schools and centres for education. Inspectors also provide advice on a range of educational issues to school communities, policy makers in the department and to the wider educational system.
The Inspectorate:
1. provides an assurance of quality and public accountability in the education system
2. carries out inspections in schools and centres for education
3. conducts national evaluations
4. promotes best practice and school improvement by advising teachers, principals and boards of management in schools
5. publishes inspection reports on individual schools and centres for education
6. reports on curriculum provision, teaching, learning and assessment generally in the educational system
7. promotes the Irish language
8. provides advice to policy makers in the Department of Education and to the wider educational system.
We provide oral feedback to the school community at the end of these inspections and we provide a printed report which is published on our website.
