Further education covers education and training which happens after second-level schooling, but which is not part of the higher education system. There are several further and adult education and training providers. A wide variety of schools, organisations and institutions are also involved in the delivery of continuing education and training for young school leavers and adults.
Higher education in Ireland is provided by universities, technological universities, institutes of technology and colleges of education. Also, several other third-level institutions provide specialist education, in fields such as art and design, medicine, business studies, rural development, theology, music and law.
