Majority of jobs in agencies’ client companies are outside Dublin region
The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, TD, today (9th January) welcomed Enterprise Ireland's 2018 End of Year Statement which shows that the majority of new jobs created by Enterprise Ireland companies last year were in regions outside of Dublin.
Commenting on the job creation figures, Minister Ring said:
“The Government has placed a strong emphasis on ensuring that economic growth is shared across the regions and on improving employment opportunities for people living in rural areas.
"I very much welcome Enterprise Ireland’s job creation results for 2018 which show that over 60% of the 18,846 new jobs created by the agency’s client companies last year were outside of the Dublin region.
"Employment in companies supported by Enterprise Ireland grew in all regions in 2018, with the North-West region showing the highest percentage increase of any region, at 9%.
"Employment growth in the Mid-West, South-East and West regions, at 5%, was also above the Enterprise Ireland national average. These figures demonstrate that Irish-owned companies right around the country are achieving growth, with the support of Enterprise Ireland.”
The Minister continued:
“Enterprise Ireland’s results come just days after [external-link https://www.idaireland.com/ | IDA Ireland ] announced its own jobs results for 2018. 58% of employment in IDA client companies, or more than 132,000 jobs, is now based outside of Dublin. More FDI jobs were added to the regions last year than at any time in almost two decades.
"The jobs created by Enterprise Ireland and IDA client companies are high quality and have a hugely positive effect on local economies. They support many more jobs in the local supply chain and contribute to the strengthening and diversification of our rural economies.
"I welcome the fact that both of the enterprise development agencies will continue to focus on supporting jobs in the regions in 2019, as well as helping companies to mitigate the impact of Brexit.”
