Minister Chambers to attend global gathering of Transport Ministers

Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Jack Chambers, is attending the International Transport Forum (ITF) Annual Summit, the largest annual gathering of transport ministers. The event, which takes place in Leipzig, Germany from 24-26 May, will bring together policy makers, researchers and companies from over 60 member countries to discuss key issues facing the transport sector.
During the Summit, Minister Chambers will attend a Special Ministers’ Roundtable on ‘Global Transport and the War in Ukraine’. This roundtable will consider short-term measures that can be aligned with the overall, long-term goal of a sustainable recovery of the transport system in Ukraine once the war is over.
Minister Chambers said:
"I am delighted to represent Ireland at the ITF Annual Summit and to meet with other Ministers and leaders from across the transport sector to discuss the actions that we can take to promote more inclusive and safer transport systems to help foster economic growth and to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation into the future.
"The Summit also provides us with an important opportunity to come together to condemn the unjustified military aggression against Ukraine, express our solidarity with the Ukrainian people and discuss what actions we can take to support the sustainable recovery of the Ukrainian transport system."
This year’s Summit, held under the Presidency of the United Kingdom, will address the theme ‘Transport Enabling Sustainable Economies’. The Minister will attend a range of other events across the Summit programme including:
The International Transport Forum (ITF) is an intergovernmental organisation which acts as a think tank for transport policy. It is under the auspices of the OECD, but it has a wider membership of sixty-four countries.
