The annual National Day of Commemoration Ceremony, to honour all those Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations, will be held in The National Museum of Ireland, Decorative Arts and History, Collins Barracks, Benburb Street, Dublin 7. The ceremony will take place on Sunday 10 July, commencing at 11am.
The event is open to members of the public and will be broadcast live on RTÉ 1 at 11am.
The President, the Taoiseach, members of the government; the Council of State; Dáil and Seanad Éireann; Diplomatic Corps; Judiciary and Northern Ireland representatives will attend the National Day of Commemoration Ceremony in Dublin. The Army No. 1 Band, conducted by Captain John Carpenter, will accompany the soloist Ms. Anna Devin.
Representatives of the next-of-kin of those who died in past wars or on UN service, ex-servicemen's organisations, as well as relatives of the 1916 Leaders, have also been invited.
The ceremony comprises of an inter-faith service followed by a wreath laying by the President on behalf of the people of Ireland. The ceremony will conclude with an Air Corps flypast.
Commemoration Ceremonies will also be held in the following locations on Sunday 10 July:
CORK: Fitzgerald’s Park, The Mardyke, at 11am. (open to the public)
GALWAY: Galway City Hall, College Road at 11am. (not open to the public)
KILKENNY: Kilkenny Castle at 11am. (open to the public)
LIMERICK: Grounds of Limerick City & County Council, Merchants Quay at 11am. (open to the public)
WATERFORD: Cathedral Square at 11am. (open to the public)
Members of the public wishing to attend these ceremonies should arrive approximately 30 minutes before the start of the formal ceremony.
