The Minister for Justice and Equality, Charlie Flanagan TD, has extended his very best wishes to Ken Bloomfield, who announced his departure from the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims (ICLVR) today.
Minister Flanagan said:
“On behalf of the Irish Government, I would like to express my gratitude to Sir Kenneth Bloomfield for his twenty years of dedicated service to the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains. Ken has been a Commissioner since the establishment of the ICLVR in 1999 and has served with distinction alongside the late John Wilson and Frank Murray and his current co-commissioner, Tim Dalton. The success of the humanitarian mission of this particular cross border body is due in no small part to his compassion and commitment. I wish Ken and his family all the very best for the future and I look forward to working with his successor.”

The Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains (ICLVR) was established by an Agreement between the Government of the Ireland and the Government of the United Kingdom signed on 27 April 1999, and by legislation enacted in both jurisdictions. The ICLVR is responsible for facilitating the location of the remains of victims of paramilitary violence who were murdered and secretly buried.
Information about the missing victims is fundamental to the ICLVR’s work. The ICLVR needs further information to be able to progress its investigations into the remaining disappeared victims - Joe Lynskey, Robert Nairac and Columba McVeigh.
