Meissner to create 150 new jobs in Castlebar
Michael Ring TD, the Minister for Rural and Community Development , today (1 February 2019) welcomed the announcement that Meissner Filtration Products is to establish a manufacturing facility in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, creating 150 direct jobs and supporting many more jobs in the local economy.
Speaking at today’s announcement in Castlebar, Minister Ring said:
“The creation of 150 high-quality jobs in Castlebar by Meissner is a huge boost to this entire region. Less than a year ago, I attended the launch of the IDA’s Advanced Technology Building, where Meissner is locating. I am delighted to see that, less than one year on, a major Lifesciences company is establishing a manufacturing facility here. It is of particular significance that Meissner has also purchased the adjacent land in order to be able to more than triple the facility’s current footprint.
“Through Project Ireland 2040, the Government has placed a strong emphasis on the economic and social development of our regions and has underpinned this objective with €116 billion of investment over the next ten years.
“The decision by Meissner to establish a manufacturing facility here in Mayo is a demonstration of what can be achieved in the regions. It also underscores the attractiveness of the West of Ireland for business leaders. The region has a well-educated and talented labour force and has developed strong clusters of companies operating in modern international sectors such as Lifesciences and ICT.”
The Minister continued:
“Today’s announcement is good for Castlebar, good for Mayo and good for the Atlantic Economic Corridor region as a whole, which extends along the western seaboard from Kerry to Donegal. The jobs being announced today will create further job opportunities in the local economy in supporting Meissner and its workers.
“I want to acknowledge the work of IDA Ireland Chief Executive, Martin Shanahan, and his team for securing this investment for the West of Ireland. I also commend my Government colleague, Heather Humphreys TD, the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, who has supported this project from the start. Today’s announcement is a good example of how we are diversifying our rural economies to improve their sustainability and competitiveness, which is particularly important in a changing operating environment.
“Investments by my own Department, including through the €1 billion Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, are helping rural communities and rural economies to realise their potential and leading to job creation in a range of sectors, including tourism and ICT.”
The Minister added:
“58% of employment in IDA client companies, or more than 132,000 jobs, is now based outside of Dublin. More FDI jobs were added to the regions last year than at any time in almost two decades.
“Enterprise Ireland are also playing a key role in supporting job creation in the regions, with over 60% of new jobs created by the agency’s client companies in 2018 being based outside of Dublin.”
