Since the late 1990s, the Office of Public Works (OPW) and the Department of Finance, Northern Ireland (DoF) have worked in partnership organising an annual touring art exhibition which showcases artworks from the two public-owned collections in venues across the island under changing themes. The OPW is delighted to announce that the current exhibition, Person Presence Perception, will open to the public on 15 December at Kilmallock Library in Kilmallock, Co. Limerick.
Welcoming the arrival of the exhibition to Kilmallock, Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Patrick O’Donovan, said:
“I am delighted to be here to welcome this new and exciting touring exhibition to Kilmallock which allows visitors to access artworks from these two state collections on display in local public buildings. The collaboration on this cultural project has been running for the past 24 years, strengthening links between our two government departments, and I am pleased that this is the second collaborated exhibition to be on display in Co. Limerick in the last couple of years. This gives local people an opportunity to view artworks, which are normally installed in public buildings in Belfast, Dublin or elsewhere in the country, locally in an exhibition context."
The focus of this year’s exhibition Person Perception Presence is people – the many ways they are represented in artworks and the responses elicited by the viewer. The 41 artworks by 40 artists reflect humanity and showcase a range of portraits from the collections in a variety of media including paintings, photographs, prints and sculpture. Each piece spotlights the vision of the artist while celebrating individuality and the humans at the centre of works, people past and present.
The artworks in each exhibition are a wonderful example of the talent and creativity alive in the visual arts today. There is a wide range of artwork media and styles from emerging and established artists.
Photography will be circulated to the media after the event. Additional images can be requested from Declan Hehir Photography at info@hehirfoto.com or 087 8301574.

The exhibition Person Presence Perception travelled to the Burnavon in Cookstown (September 2022) and the Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise (Oct – Nov 2022) prior to Kilmallock Library, Co. Limerick where it will run until mid-March 2023. It will then travel to the Main Guard, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary from mid-March to end April 2023, and then to the Armagh County Museum in May 2023.
The Office of Public Works (OPW) and the Department of Finance of Northern Ireland (DoFNI) have collaborated on organising art exhibitions since the late 1990s. These exhibitions involve touring artworks from both public owned collections to venues throughout the island.
In recent years, the exhibitions have opened up into broader partnerships with other cultural organisations that have led to the artworks in both collections being viewed by audiences in a wide variety of locations – arts centres, libraries, colleges, heritage properties and other buildings, which are open to the public.
