"An Irish proverb says that people live in the shelter of one another. We are reminded of our inter-dependence by the shared global challenge posed by COVID 19: to overcome this challenge we must all work together.
"That is why Ireland has already committed 10 million euro to the UN’s Covid 19 humanitarian appeal. Ireland encourages a UN system-wide response, and that is why we have released funds early to UN humanitarian and development partners, and we are seeking to support the coordinating role of the UN in key countries.
"I am proud that Ireland is contributing to the 20 billion euro Team Europe response to the global impact of this crisis, a demonstration of solidarity with the world.
"Ireland will continue to live up to our pledge to leave nobody behind. For us this means coordinated global action and targeted support to vulnerable countries through this crisis. Whether that is in those countries that have humanitarian needs or host refugee populations; those with weak health systems, major economic challenges, whether they be in Africa, or in Small Island Developing States or elsewhere in the world.
"We are all in this together and - together – we will prevail."
