The Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection, Regina Doherty, has welcomed the latest Live Register figures published today by the Central Statistics Office.
In unadjusted terms there were 183,755 people signing on the Live Register in January 2020. This represents an annual decrease of 15,872 (-8.0%) since January 2019.
Minister Doherty commented
"The number of people on the Live Register in January 2020 is the lowest number recorded in the seasonally adjusted series since January 2008. We have continued to make huge inroads into tackling unemployment in every region and Government policies have ensured a reduction in the unemployment rate by more than two thirds since its peak. As a result, the country is now benefiting from a strong workforce and a thriving economy. We will continue to focus on tackling the remaining levels of unemployment and ensure that everyone who is able to work can find a job – the best guarantee of an improved standard of living.”
