Statement from Minister Donohoe regarding the resignation of the Chief Executive of Bank of Ireland Group plc

The Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe notes today’s announcement by Bank of Ireland Group Plc regarding the intention of Ms Francesca McDonagh to step down as Chief Executive and Director.
Ms McDonagh joined Bank of Ireland in October 2017 as Group Chief Executive Officer having worked for HSBC for many years in a number of roles spanning various countries.
Commenting on Ms McDonagh’s resignation, the Minister stated:
“Bank of Ireland has prospered under Ms McDonagh’s leadership ensuring that the Bank continued to play its role as a vital supporter of economic growth and jobs in Ireland. She was instrumental in driving a change in culture within the Bank, seeing through the IT transformation programme, and also played a key role in helping customers and the country navigate their way through the recent COVID-19 crisis.
"I would like to thank Ms McDonagh for her commitment and professionalism throughout her time in Bank of Ireland and wish her every success in the future."
