Minister for Education Norma Foley has announced every primary and post-primary school is this week receiving a Cineáltas flag and poster to mark Anti-Bullying Week. The Cineáltas Flag will serve as a visible national symbol of the school community’s shared commitment to be kind and to work together to prevent and address bullying.
The Cineáltas flag, which is an action in Cineáltas: Action Plan on Bullying, acknowledges the good work that schools are already doing and will do to prevent and address bullying and to promote kindness, respect, inclusion, diversity and wellbeing.
Anti-Bullying Week runs until tomorrow, Friday 17 November 2023. Schools have been encouraged to get involved by holding anti-bullying activities and initiatives to raise awareness about bullying behaviour and its impact on children and young people.
Minister Foley said:
“Cineáltas means kindness. Anti-Bullying Week is an important week in the school calendar where we can increase awareness about bullying behaviour and its impact on children and young people. We can also remind ourselves of the importance of kindness. All our schools are receiving their Cineáltas flags this week, during Anti-Bullying Week.
Minister Foley announced:
“We will be holding a Cineáltas showcase event near the end of this school year to celebrate the good work that our school communities are doing. We will be working with schools to highlight exemplary practice in preventing and addressing bullying behaviour and promoting equality, inclusion and diversity. We will also be celebrating individuals or groups who through their personal leadership, participation, or achievements have made an outstanding contribution to preventing and addressing bullying and promoting equality, inclusion and diversity in their school community.”
