The Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman, has welcomed the publication of his department’s Statement of Strategy 2023 – 2025.
The Statement of Strategy was prepared following consultation with departmental staff, government departments and external stakeholders. These consultations pointed to a number of organisational strengths such as the critical importance that staff and stakeholders alike ascribe to the work of the department. It also highlighted some key areas that the department has to address, including challenges which emerged as the breadth and scale of its work has increased.
The Vision outlined in the Strategy is for a fair, equal and inclusive society where rights are respected, and where everyone can reach their potential. Over the last three years, the department has risen to a number of significant challenges, including accommodating increasing numbers of International Protection applicants and Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection; providing supports and services to the Early Years Sector and a cyber-attack on IT systems in the HSE and Tusla. A key objective will be to develop the department’s organisational capacity and capability so that it has the skilled staff, agile processes and robust systems needed to take advantage of opportunities and address challenges.
Speaking about today’s publication, Minister O’Gorman said:
“Ireland is a diverse, dynamic and changing society. Addressing new challenges will require understanding and partnerships, as well as an ongoing commitment to evidence-based and rights-based approaches. Our shared ambition will require strong and effective collaboration across government departments, along with the support of all staff and stakeholders. I look forward to working with colleagues as we deliver on our objectives and ambition over the coming period.”
