This year’s Cruinniú na nÓg, Ireland’s national day of creativity for children and young people will take place on Saturday the 13th of June 2020. The Irish language will be at the heart of this year’s celebration, with Irish language events taking place all over the country. Events will focus on all forms of art and on all age groups – and will include game coding, making kites, learning to dance, story writing .
Due to the public health restrictions which are in place at this time, the Creative Ireland Programme and their partners in the programme would like children and young people to get creative in their homes and in their gardens.
Among the Irish language events:
Céilí in the Kitchen : A call for children, young people and their families to have a céilí in their kitchen for Cruinniú na nÓg. Áirc Damhsa will guide us through the Irish traditions associated with these social public events while we stay at home.
Become a Story Keeper – Fighting Words and Great Lighthouses of Ireland are inviting young writers between the ages of 7 and 12 years to become Story Keepers – to create a story inspired by lighthouses. Lighthouses are places of wonder that keep people safe and guide them from danger while on journeys at sea.
Create a Video Game App : If you could click your fingers and create a video game app, what would it be? Let us know and together with Whizz Kids Training, via their ground-breaking Digital Skills Virtual Classroom, we will help bring young people into the world of software design in 4 easy tutorials.
Poetry with Branar Téatar do Pháistí : Writers and artists such as Inni-K, Mary Murphy, Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin and Liz Weir will be composing brand new poetry in both Irish and English. The newly composed poems and stories will be recited and presented to us in partnership with artist Maeve Clancy and this will be available online.
Online supports and resources are being provided by the Creative Ireland Programme in partnership with Áirc Damhsa, The Design and Crafts Council of Ireland, Great Lighthouses of Ireland, Fighting Words, Whizz Kids Training and RTÉ to enable children and young people to unleash their creativity. Everyone is invited to celebrate our culture and creativity and to start taking part online now, as we prepare for Cruinniú na nÓg on Saturday 13th June 2020.
Further details and resources will be available from the Creative Ireland website and RTÉ platforms up to and including Saturday 13th June – téigh chuig www.creativeireland.gov.ie and www.rte.ie.
