Following an open recruitment campaign conducted by the Public Appointments Service (PAS), the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has nominated Mr Gregory Sparks as Chair Designate of the Vhi.
As is normal practice regarding such an appointment to a State Board, the Minister will notify the Chair of the Joint Committee on Health of his intention to appoint Mr Sparks as Chair. The Committee has the option, if it wishes, to invite the Chair Designate to brief its members. After such time, the Committee can submit its views on the proposed appointment to the Minister for his consideration prior to the formal appointment being made by the Minister.
Gregory Sparks has significant experience to date within the Vhi, having been a member of its Board for a number of years as well as supporting the organisation in the development of its strategic plan.
Mr Sparks has also served on several boards in the private sector, both domestically and internationally, in a diverse range of areas, including the health, media and communications, and non-profit sectors, providing them with significant experience in financial corporate responsibility. His principal career has been as a chartered accountant in practice, and he has worked in, and has acted as an advisor to, companies in a range of sectors. In addition, he has experience within the health sector as a health service provider and chaired the Coombe Hospital for a number of years.
