Simon Harris, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, today (23rd April) invited Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill a vacancy on the board of the National College of Art and Design (NCAD). The term of office for the position will be for a period of three years.
The process of filling this vacancy on the Board of the NCAD is being managed by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.

The department will undertake an assessment process in relation to the Expressions of Interest received. At the end of that process, the Minister will be provided with a list of candidates deemed to be suitable for appointment to the Board, from which the Minister will make his selection.
The closing date for the receipt of applications is 3pm on Friday, 14 May 2021.
NCAD was established in 1971 and is governed by a board appointed by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. The College has four faculties - Design, Education, Fine Art and Visual Culture. NCAD has been a recognised College of UCD since 2011.
NCAD is based on the site of the Powers Whiskey Distillery in the heart of the Liberties in Dublin’s city centre.
The functions of An Bord generally are prescribed under Section 5 of the National College of Art and Design Act, 1971, which can be accessed here.
An Bord is assisted in the discharge of its responsibilities by an Audit and Risk Committee comprising three independent non-executive board members and an external financial expert.
An Bord consists of eleven members one of whom is Chairperson appointed by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science for a period of not more than three years. There are six independent non-executive directors, two staff representatives, two student representatives and the Director, who is an ex officio member of An Bord. Individual members may be asked to serve a second or subsequent term if approved by the Minister.
Members of An Bord are not remunerated. Travel and subsistence allowances will be paid in respect of journeys undertaken to attend meetings of the Board or to transact its business.
