Minister O’Donovan officially opens renovated OPW Headquarters in Headford

The Minister of State with responsibility for Office of Public Works, Patrick O’Donovan, has today officially opened the renovated OPW Headquarters in Headford, Co. Galway.
On opening the Headquarters today the Minister said:
“I am delighted to be here today to officially open the newly renovated office space for OPW staff. This building design reflects our commitment in working towards meeting our climate action targets. The building provides high quality office space that is highly insulated and meets Nearly Zero Energy Building requirements."
He added:
“The Project Team has provided value for money, energy efficient accommodation for the 50 staff occupying the accommodation at Headford Regional Office. This €6 million investment into the Headford region marks the OPWs continued support for both the region our staff, ensuring they can deliver their work in a safe environment that is fit for purpose.”
The €6 million project involved the renovation and extension of the building into an A-rated ultra-modern workplace. The base will be the Headquarters for the OPW’s West Region Drainage Maintenance team.
The extensive project included demolishing and replacing much of the existing building. The new base provides high quality, fit-for-purpose, efficient accommodation with optimum levels of natural daylight and ventilation throughout.
Renewable technologies in the building include air source heat pumps and solar panels that provide heating and electricity.
The building is located in the centre of Headford.
The newly renovated office provides accommodation to six OPW Flood Risk Management sections. These staff are involved in all aspects of implementing the National Flood Policy by delivering Flood Risk Management measures.
The OPW has been based in Headford for over 50 years with a significant workforce. It is delighted to be investing in its future at the Galway site, and the attached social, environmental and economic benefits that this brings to the wider community.
