The Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection, Regina Doherty TD, has welcomed the latest Live Register figures published today by the Central Statistics Office. On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 2,300 in November 2019 bringing the seasonally adjusted total to 186,400. This is the lowest number recorded in the seasonally adjusted series since January 2008. The unadjusted total for November 2019 is 177,554 which is the lowest since December 2007.
Minister Doherty commented:
“I welcome the fall in the number of people on the Live Register in November 2019 to 177,554, which represents a year on year decrease of 9.5%, a decrease of 23.9% since November 2017, and a month-on-month fall of 1.6% compared with October 2019. The total Live Register for November 2019 is down 2,905 from the previous month and remains lower than it has been since December 2007.
“I also welcome the fall in the number of people under 25 on the Live Register to 18,362 which is the second month in a row that it has been the lowest on record, among figures that date back to 1980. The number of males under 25 is also the lowest on record while the number of females who are under 25 is the lowest since May 1980.
"The number of over-25s on the Live Register is 159,192, which is the lowest since May 2008. While these statistics are testament to the efforts that this Government has made to providing a range of supports to businesses, the self-employed and people out of work, we are not complacent and we will continue to work closely with employers and jobseekers to give them the opportunity to create jobs and find work.”
